Adelaide and the road to Kangaroo Island / Dec19

We arrive in Adelaide and face our biggest challenge: driving on the wrong (left) side of the road!  The first half hour driving to our hotel was terrifying.  After that, it was not too bad if you stop thinking about it (closing your eyes helps too).  Now if only the locals understood turning the wipers means a left turn!

Our carefully plotted route to the hotel was thrown out the window because half of Adelaide was closed for Christmas carols.  We joined 30,000 Adelaidians (?) at a park near our hotel for a few tunes, followed by fireworks.  It was kind of like Bluesfest at Christmas.

It's strange to think of Christmas in the summer, but it seems normal to Australians.

Adelaide is a beautiful city.  The core is surrounded by greenspace containing parks, zoos, gardens, bike paths and rivers.

Here's a hardy biker enjoying the sun.

Unfortunately, we had to hit the road (and terrorize the other drivers) to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island.

The road passes thru beautiful scenery

Farewell to the mainland
