In Namibia we'd frequently drive for hours and see no signs of people and then arrive at wonderful campgrounds with cactus gardens, pools, bars and once a hilltop bathtub overlooking the countryside. Not to mention all the free roaming animals such as camels, goats, donkeys, and antelope. Here's a slice of our camping life in Africa.
On the bus
Home away from home
Artfully designed outside shower with a rainshower head
A local watering hole
A surprise visit from the local choir!
After their performance, they try to teach us some dance steps
Sam (our guide) making tea after dinner
Fitting in some blog time
We shared this experience with a fabulous group of 10 Brits and 3 Namibians who taught us some of their favourite expressions:
Namibian - yahbo - okay, let's do it
- polley polley - slowly
Brit - phaffing - farting around, wasting time
- eggie bread - french toast
Mornings start between 4:00 and 6:00 with morning game drives, followed by afternoon game drives or hikes and dinners of local fare such as kudo stew, or pork neck.
Accommodations were more sophisticated at Kruger in a rondeval
Candlelight dinners sitting at a table!
But mornings were the earliest - our alarm went off at 3:45 one day!
