Kangeroo Island / Dec20-22

Yes, we saw a lot of kangaroos on Kangaroo Island.  Unfortunately, we saw even more as roadkill.

Here's a few marsupials we spotted in Flinder's Chase National Park

This is a goanna.  He is about 1 metre long.

And this hedgehoggy type is an echidna.

Apparently there are platypuses at the waterhole but we only saw this one.

And what looks like a penguin from a distance, is only a cormorant.

But we saw these beauties

Kangaroo Island is unexpectedly large.  We stayed at one end near the ferry and the main park was two hours drive at the other end.  We overstayed at the park one evening and had to drive back as the sun was setting. (see the above sign).  Kangaroos everywhere: in the fields, on the road, in the bushes, in our minds...  We even saw a koala crossing the road.  All the residents have big kangaroo grills on the front of their cars.

When we weren't scanning the shoulders for wildlife to avoid, we enjoyed the scenery.

We hit some highlights.

The Remarkable Rocks are remarkable.

And one more cave.  This area is riddled with caves.  This cave is unusual in that it was formed from a sand dune which was eroded from below.

  1. These pictures are stunning. The wildlife is amazing; the landscape fascinatingly beautiful. I've run out of superlatives.
