Off on the wine tour:
And it's only 10AM!
The first stop is the home of 'Goats Do Roam' and 'Bored Doe'. The goat is in residence.
And some of his friends.
The wine regions are in these broad valleys surrounded by dramatic mountains.
We decided we needed a break from the tastings, so we hiked into the hills surrounding the Afrikaans Language Monument which is visible throughout the valley.
South Africa has a complex (to say the least) history and the Afrikaans language plays a big part of it.
Lunch-time was at this little French winery.
Our last visit of the day took us into the Solms vineyards, which has established both a museum, with artifacts from those who've worked there over the centuries and a trust fund where they donate 50% of their profits to improve housing and education of their employees and their families.
Finally as the sun sets behind the mountains, it's time to head home.
Tomorrow: Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope.

Dave looks SO happy for so early in the morning.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing micro climate for wineries in those valleys surrounded by mountains. Bet you tasted some good ones.
