Kruger Close Encounters /Nov18-22

You should take a look at this YouTube video: Battle At Kruger

Spoiler alert: it has a happy ending.

This leopard was sleeping right beside the road.
Be very very quiet

Shhh!

Oops

Baboon Parade
There were dozens of baboons taking a short cut on the road around the truck.

More Baboons, you'd think they owned the place.

This impala walks into a lion's den...
Hello!

They all stared at each other for a while until the impala makes a break for it.  He hung around making a loud snorts to warn others about the lions.

A cheetah (very rare) out for a walk.  Damn paparazzi.

Close encounters of the elephant kind

Our guide started the truck at this point to discourage him.

These giraffes jumped out of the bush in front of our truck and trotted down the road.

Rhino Attack!
We went on early morning (3:45 wake up) bush walk, just us and 2 armed guides.

We trekked into the bush, looking at shells, bushes and termite mounds, when our guide told us to get behind some brush.
A black rhino approaches, slowly at first.  Our guide tells us if he comes around the right side we should move to the left and vice versa: rhinos are poor on cornering.
He get our scent and charges.  The  guides throw some sticks at him with no effect.
And then they fire a shot which scares him off.
This was the first time in 3 years that the guide had to fire his gun.  Lucky us!
Unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures of this, as we were plotting our exit plan.

Fortunately (!) we had more rhinos.  We had moved about 10m when a white rhino (the 'nice' kind) and her baby show up.

The evil eye

Getting a little too close.  The guide shouts and throws sticks which worked in this case.
